Training

In Narvik we have the ocean within the city and it leads to an unstable climate. We have normally changing temperatures and very little snow through the winter.  And it is quite normal that it is raining in the wintertime. Narvik is also surrounded of high mountains and   steep terrain. The places we can train the dogs is roads with other traffic, so the best is to train with a four- wheeler. All training from autumn to the races starts  is with the four-wheeler. The only sled training the dogs get is on races and on our travelling between the races.

In the autumn we split the dogs in many small teams, but later in the season it is usual that  we train up to 16 dogs in one string in front of the four- wheeler. I and Per Sverre always train together and we works like a team and the training is efficient. The roads we use for training is not longer than 6 km one way. This means that we have too turn the team some times during the training to get enough distance. This is mentally hard training for the team.

The dogs are strong and it is important to have good control. Four-wheeler is the perfect training equipment. Good brakes, light and the opportunity to help the team in steep hills so it don't get too heavy for small teams.

Winter

To go with sled is the purpose with all training

Summer training

In the warm summer mounts it is good to have an other way to train the dogs. Swimming is cooling and efficient training for the dogs, and they love it.

Loose training

All dogs are lose on the kennel some hours every week.

Treadmill

We can use this training when it is bad conditions on the trail. It is also nice to use on dogs which have been out of training fore some reasons.
